A expansive New Canaan, Connecticut estate once rented by Mariah Carey is now listed for sale at $12.4 million.

The 18,000-square-foot mansion, which Carey leased for $75,000 a month starting in July 2023, is located on one of the most prestigious roads in the New England town and boasts sweeping views and a rich architectural history.

The 56-year-old singer, who was recently seen in London, showcased the home in a May 2024 social media video promoting her remix contribution to Muni Long’s Made for Me.

She had also previously featured the estate in a music video, adding other pop culture elements to the house’s long timeline. Known as Orchards End, the residence sits on a 6.26-acre lot and dates back to 1929.

In nearly 100 years, it has only had four owners. Among them was Carlos Hank Gonzalez, a former mayor of Mexico City, who added a nine-foot-tall, 1,500-foot-long brick and limestone wall across the front of the property in the 1980s.

Major renovations took place in the 1990s, when the mansion was expanded by 10,000 square feet.

Upgrades included a new kitchen, an outdoor courtyard, and a great room with 35-foot ceilings, two-story windows, a mezzanine, and a turret. “You can see New York City on a clear day,” listing agent Tamar Lurie Group’s Kyle Malloy told Mansion Global.

Malloy added that the great room was inspired by the 1999 film Entrapment, referencing scenes set in Scotland’s Castle Duart with actors Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

The current owners bought the home for $6.5 million in 2014 and invested the same amount into modernizing and restoring it over the course of three years. They brought in architect Dinyar Wadia to help “preserve the integrity of the home,” Malloy explained.

Originally designed by renowned New York architect William B. Tubby, the house features a slate roof, a mix of hardwood, marble and limestone floors, iron-framed windows, and extensive millwork. Tubby’s other projects included Waveny House in New Canaan and Dunnellen Hall in Greenwich.

Inside, the main home and guest house total 20,000 square feet and include 12 bedrooms, 12 full bathrooms, and four half-baths.

The layout spans multiple levels, with amenities such as a conservatory with terrace, wine cellar, media room, wellness center, and 12 fireplaces. Outside, a heated pool and spa, sports court, and four-car garage complete the estate.

“Oenoke is one of the most coveted and prestigious roads in New Canaan,” Malloy said. “It’s five minutes to town and train.”
