Celebrity Antiques Road Trip star branded 'desperate' as auction chaos erupts
Celebrity Antiques Road Trip saw comedians Tez Ilyas and Eshaan Akbar going head to head in a bid to find the best antiques.
The celebrity edition of Antiques Road Trip hit Lancashire on Thursday (17 July), featuring comedians Tez Ilyas and Eshaan Akbar in a friendly rivalry on the popular BBC Two show.
The comedic pair, who bonded on the stand-up circuit, showcased their camaraderie and competitive spirit during the episode as they each received £400 to embark on an antique shopping spree, with Tez pairing up with expert Roo Irvine and Eshaan joining forces with Charles Hanson.
Their quest for unique finds led them to a variety of items, including a painting, jardiniere, highchair, and wooden table.
The excitement peaked at the auction house, where Eshaan, Charles, Tez, and Roo eagerly anticipated the results of their investments. However, things took a turn for the chaotic when Eshaan and Charles' pieces failed to rake in significant bids.
In a bold move, they tried to directly sell their large mirrored jardiniere to the crowd as the bidding stalled at £40, with Eshaan urging, "Look how shiny it is!"
Tez, not one to be outdone, warned the bidders: "Do not fall for these tactics. It's cheap and desperate!" while his expert partner Roo chimed in with a touch of elegance, "We're classier than that!"
Despite the spirited efforts, the gavel fell at £50, prompting Tez to quip, "Someone drove that up for no reason."
Returning to his seat, Eshaan reminded Tez, "It's not all about profit, it's about taking part!"
Next, Tez and Roo took the stage, auctioning off a painting. Mimicking Eshaan's earlier approach, Tez hoisted the artwork for all to see, trying his best to entice the bidders, reports the Express.
Following some modest gains and further losses, Tez and Roo ended on a high note as their final item fetched £160, netting them a substantial £50 profit.
The end results declared Tez and Roo the victors with a total profit of £29.50, while Eshaan and Charles faced a deficit of £45.24.
"Guys, that was a journey. We've loved it!" exclaimed Charles to his team, as Eshaan playfully ribbed Tez: "I don't like it. I don't like what you did."
The cameras captured Eshaan and Tez as they departed the auction house in a vintage 1960s Daimler Dart, musing over their experience.
"I actually think you and I could be the new face of antiquing in the UK," Eshaan proposed with a hopeful tone.
Tez replied with gusto: "We could go up and down the country with people who don't know what they're talking about, don't know what they're doing, and be like 'Get that mate!'. Yeah, I'd do it again, awesome."
