Novak Djokovic was forced to hand over money after Carlos Alcaraz incident at Wimbledon
Novak Djokovic was unable to reach the Wimbledon final this year after losing in the semi-finals to Jannik Sinner, but at least he will not be losing any money after his exit
Novak Djokovic may not have made it to the Wimbledon final this year, but he managed to keep his prize money intact, a stark contrast to his experience in 2023.
Djokovic made it to the finals in both 2023 and 2024, only to be bested by Carlos Alcaraz on each occasion. It was during the 2023 final that Djokovic experienced a costly outburst.
Following a crucial break by the Spanish prodigy in the decisive fifth set, the seven-time Wimbledon champion unleashed his frustration on the net post with his racket. This led to a code violation for Djokovic and a subsequent fine of $8,200, which was subtracted from his $1.6M runner-up earnings – a significant hit compounded by his defeat in the grueling five-setter against Alcaraz. It comes after another Wimbledon legend issued a complaint after being denied entry to a restaurant near the club.

In the aftermath, during his post-match press conference, Djokovic referred to his clash with the net post as "frustration in the moment". The Serbian great's most recent victory at Wimbledon was in 2022, when he overcame Australia's Nick Kyrgios to claim the title.
This year, Djokovic seemed to be contending with physical issues, yet he valiantly fought his way to the semi-finals. However, he couldn't get past Jannik Sinner, as the Italian secured a straight-sets victory over Djokovic, winning 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.
Despite the setback, Djokovic managed to add $1M to his career earnings, bringing his total to just over $188m in his illustrious career. The All England Club's generous prize money policy ensures that those reaching the last four of Wimbledon receive a substantial amount.
Women's champion Iga Swiatek and Sinner each pocketed a remarkable $4M in winnings at the tournament, while runner-up Alcaraz claimed $2M.
Djokovic remains at No. 6 in the world rankings, despite making it to the last four at SW19. Djokovic currently has 4,130 points, with his loss to Sinner resulting in a deduction of 500 points, as he failed to reach the final again, having done so the previous two years.
Sinner earned 1,600 points for his victory and now tops the rankings with 12,030 points. Alcaraz may have lost 700 points by losing in the final, but he retains second place.

He is followed by German star Alexander Zverev, while semi-finalist Taylor Fritz gained 400 points, pushing him ahead of Britain's Jack Draper, who now falls to fifth after his second round exit.
Sinner, 23, has now triumphed in the last six meetings against Djokovic. After the match, Djokovic reflected on how his body is letting him down when it matters most.
"These guys are fit, young, sharp. I feel like I'm going into the match with tank half empty. It's just not possible to win a match like that," he said. "I don't think it's bad fortune. It's just age, the wear and tear of the body."
