Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson said he interviewed the President of Iran about whether the country is seeking war with the United States.

The interview, which Carlson said he will debut in the next couple of days, comes as Donald Trump and his coalition continue contradicting their own intelligence agencies on the extent of damage wrought by the "bunker buster" bombing of Fordow's nuclear site.

Trump and his allies have reiterated that the bombing "obliterated" Iran's nuclear future, despite intelligence reports that say it only set Iran back months or a year at most. The conversation with Masoud Pezeshkian was conducted remotely through a translator and is currently being edited, Carlson said.

"What is your goal? Do you seek war with the United States? Do you seek war with Israel?" Carlson said he asked Iran's leader.

"There are all kinds of questions that I didn't ask the president of Iran, particularly questions to which I knew I could not get an honest answer, such as: 'Was your nuclear program totally disabled by the bombing campaign by the US government a week and a half ago?'" he said.

The interview will likely shed some light on the tense yet shrouded relationship between the two world leaders in the wake of Israeli strikes on Iran's capital, Tehran, over several weeks in June.

Trump performed a victory lap after 12 days of conflict between Israel and Iran when he said he brokered a ceasefire.

Both nations accused each other of breaking the agreement the following day, however, and Trump has since struggled to maintain the appearance of a confident, in-control third party.

Carlson said that he made his third request in the last few months to interview Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Israeli leaders plans to visit Washington next week to meet with Trump.
