Karoline Leavitt suggests new reason for Trump's hand bruise

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt suggested that President Donald Trump's recurring hand bruising is due to the fact that he "shakes a lot of hands," rather than because of any serious medical condition

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt offered a fresh rationale for President Donald Trump's persistent hand bruising during her Thursday afternoon briefing at the White House.

Leavitt attributed the discoloration to a combination of Trump's extensive handshaking with individuals he encounters, along with the "aspirin therapy" he is currently receiving.

"Recent photos of the president have shown minor bruising on the back of his hand. This is consistent with minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin, which is taken as part of a standard cardiovascular prevention regimen," Leavitt told reporters. "This is a well-known and benign side effect of aspirin therapy.

"The president remains in excellent health, which I think all of you witness on a daily basis here," she added, promising that documentation outlining the president's most recent medical examination results concerning his hand and swollen leg would be released shortly.

The 79 year old commander-in-chief was observed with a significant amount of makeup covering his right hand while being photographed climbing aboard Marine One at the White House. He was traveling to Pittsburgh, reports the Mirror US.

Trump was filmed speaking with journalists about Russian President Vladimir Putin prior to his departure when a camera focused closely on the concealer applied to his hand, amid ongoing concerns about Trump's puffy ankles and snug footwear that have sparked renewed health-related speculation. Earlier in February, questions arose about Trump's discolored hand, which was first spotted during his encounter with French President Emmanuel Macron.

The identical marking surfaced again in April, as Trump hosted the Navy's football team at the White House for the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy presentation.

Leavitt maintained at that time that the bruising resulted from extensive handshaking, a routine aspect of presidential responsibilities.

"President Trump is a man of the people, and he meets more Americans and shakes their hands on a daily basis than any other president in history. His commitment is unwavering, and he proves that every single day," Leavitt declared in a previous statement to The Daily Beast.

In December of the previous year, the then-former president personally told TIME Magazine that the bruise - which had been observed even at that point - stemmed from handshaking activities.

An April medical assessment of the president indicated no significant health concerns, noting normal bodily functions and "blood flow to his extremities" that remained "unimpaired."

The report also documented that his joints and muscles showed "no swelling" and that, despite his skin displaying "minor sun damage," there were no "concerning lesions or growths" detected.

Medical professionals offer their theories on the bruise's cause Medical experts have weighed in with their theories on the cause of the bruise seen on Trump's right hand. Dr. Boback Berookhim, a urologist and men's sexual health expert from New York, shared with the Daily Mail his belief that the concealer on Trump's hand is likely hiding a bruise.

He speculated that the discoloration could be due to blood being drawn or perhaps an insect bite. Alternatively, it might be the result of Trump accidentally hitting his hand against something, he added.

The small bump often noticed after needle injections is just a minor histamine reaction to the slight injury caused by the needle, a reaction that usually subsides within a few hours but can cause more noticeable bruising in older individuals due to their thinner and less flexible blood vessels.

Dr. Neal Patel, a primary care physician based in Orange County, California, expressed skepticism to the Daily Mail about the handshaking rationale, calling it "a bit of a stretch.

"Shaking too many hands is a little bit of a stretch. President Trump has had something like this in the past, and from my experience and my patients, I would put that lower on the list of possibilities," he commented.
