David Corenswet’s Superman salary revealed and he’s paid less than Nicholas Hoult
Despite being the top-billed star of the new Superman movie, David Corenswet was paid surprisingly less than one of his co-stars.
David Corenswet may be at the forefront of the newest Superman film, but that doesn’t mean he’s making the most money of all the stars in the movie.
The film’s highly anticipated release has been met with controversy over a political comment that said the character was an immigrant, which has seen accusations that James Gunn is just “rallying up the MAGA crowd,” and President Donald Trump himself mocked for “childish” posts.
In addition, another former franchise star has also slammed it as being “too woke.”
- Seven-week-old puppy taken to be put to sleep and people can't believe vet's reaction
- Simple hack to keep bananas fresher for longer with cheap kitchen staple
Despite the controversy and drama, fans have been eagerly awaiting the movie, and box office projections are high when it comes to the amount it is expected to make.
However, while Corenswet is likely to find himself in a new stratosphere of stardom, he won’t be the one who gets to say he made the most money off of the film.
According to a Puck News report, Corenswet earned less than $1 million for his lead role in the film, significantly less than another actor, who earned the highest salary.
That star was none other than Nicholas Hoult, who portrays Lex Luthor–and earned $2 million. By comparison, Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, who is stepping into the role of Lois Lane, each took home paychecks of $750,000.
However, all three are “in line for box office bonuses” based on the film’s performance.
As for why the film’s top two billed characters made less money, it likely comes down to the careers they had each built prior to the movie.

While not new to film, Corenswet has yet to serve as a leading man prior to the movie, while Brosnahan is best known for her performance on The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, a TV show, and is untested in film.
However, Hoult has been a star in several films over the years, with roles in About a Boy, X-Men: First Class, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Menu and Nosferatu.
Because of his years in the business, Hoult has likely built a following of his own, and can likely bring additional audiences to theaters.
Of course, if the film is a success, Corenswet could command a higher salary in future films.
Superman is in theaters now.
